3 straight victories for Dragons sponsored by Crowe
Crowe Dragons capitalised on a weakened Conister Rackateers Pioneers squad bereft of no.1 Dafydd Lewis and no.4 Dean Sowerby to win 5-0.
At 5 Lucy Kerr of the rackateers stepped up from C league faced Brian Cowley another C league player stepping in for Dragons. Lucy gifted Brian the first two games after leading 14-13 before serving out in the first and 14-11 in the second with Brian riding his luck to take a 2-0 lead. 3rd time lucky saw Lucy pull one game back. However Brian made sure in the fifth to take the Dragons first match of the night.
At 4 Crowes own Jon Shepherd played another C league replacement Ben Dalglish of the Rackateers. This was a big mismatch with Jon running out comfortable winner 45-15 across 3 straight sets.
At 3 Magnus of Crowe Dragons took on crowd favourite Barry Irvine. Magnus lead comfortably in the first until an unlikely comeback saw Barry almost overturn a 7 point deficit to take the set, however Magnus managed to hold out. The second set saw Magnus comfortably win 15-5. Barry took the third to threaten a 5 set thriller however Magnus won the fourth to take the match 3-1.
At 2 the much higher ranked Steve Gaylor of Crowe Dragons faced Marc Taggart of the Rackateers. Marc surprisingly took a game off Steve and is the first to do so this season in B league competition. Steve however ran out 3-1 winner 46-27 overall.
The match of the night was at 1 between the young Ben Peach of Crowe Dragons and Rob Boyles of the Rackateers. Ben started sharply but as the games wore on, rushed shots and too many strokes enabled Rob to take a 2-1 lead. The game was almost finished in four by Rob but his fitness deserted him in the end with Ben managing to capitalise and tie the game up before going on to take the 5th game to complete the 5 match whitewash with the final score 250 – 166.
Crowe Dragons are second in the league with a game in hand over Outcasts with only a 100 point deficit effectively making Crowe Dragons the front runners early in the season.
